Why should a student be organised in life?
Lawyers and all other students need to have a lot of skills that are not necessary for other fields. Staying organised is something which almost every individual should be good at, especially lawyers. If a lawyer isn't arranged, they will lose all the data that they have. They need to file everything and fill out all the paperwork. One wrong move or negligence, and everything will be ruined, which is why many lawyers hire secretaries, who take care of the organisation of documents for them as it is a crucial part of their job.
It will keep your sanity as you will always have everything of need with you. You will know what is kept where and when in need, you will have everything accessible for you. Not only that, you will always be on time, since an organised individual is never late. Your clients will stay happy, and you will never feel like a failure.
How can students remain organised despite staying at a hostel or shared space?
- Make a list that you need to follow each day:
Every student, be it someone who is studying law, or anything else, needs to understand, is that a planner will help them go a long way. The biggest issue almost every student faces is the inability to manage time well. They will spend hours working on assignments that are not urgent and will miss out on the ones that need to go first. Many also slack off and spend their time binge-watching shows and serials on TV, which sets them back. While it is a good thing to relax and take time for yourself, it also becomes quite dangerous. Do not rely on the things that come with your phone, but expand your horizons and check out all the new apps available on the Play store. If you want an app that reminds you of the minute you miss out on something, you will also find that there. Whatever you want, you will find an app for that, so rather than wasting your time or noting things down or trying to get yourself organised, get yourself the right app to do so. - Take time off and make a mental list:
Many of us are all over the place and find it almost impossible to focus and get organised because we have a lot going on and our mind is working on a million things at once. Like we close tables in our compute, we need to complete all the open tabs in our mind so we can concentrate on the task at hand. While it is not an easy thing to do, especially if you are a college student, you can meditate. Mediate first thing after you wake up in the morning, and you will notice how easy things become for you. Your mind will be more relaxed, and no matter what curveball you get thrown, you will be calm while dealing with it. It might not be comfortable initially, since law school is hectic and students get overwhelmed the minute they go to take their first class. It is not easy for students to get sufficient sleep. In fact, for some, it is quite a challenge due to which they suffer in silence. When they complete their assignments by staying up for long, they are unable to then sleep on time as their whole sleep schedule gets messed up. Not just that, but many students who suffer from insomnia search for help because they know this is the only realistic way they can get their assignments done and actually get some sleep. If they do not do that they have to spend hours doing their work and that messes up their sleep pattern. Many students think that the longer they stay awake for the stronger they are. They will be discussing their all-nighter and will feel proud that they haven't slept in 24 hours or in 36 hours and that makes them feel like they accomplished something. Some even say that they only sleep for 4 to 5 hours a day and that is all they need. In doing so or in saying stuff like this, they do not think about the consequences. These things are not supposed to be worn as a medal because they are harmful for one's health. Sleep is the me time for our brain as it is when our brain gets to log off and refresh itself so it can work better the next day. But if it is not getting the time to log off and refresh completely it will not perform well the next day and slowly, day by day, it will begin to get worse and worse. Until one day, it just gives up and passes out.
When that happens, you will fall asleep, and you might keep sleeping for hours and hours after passing out in a crowd or in class. This is quite common as many students who do not sleep well enough or only sleep for a couple of hours face this quite a lot. They are not able to function well, their reflexes get slow, and in return, they are unable to make quick decisions like when to cross the road. IT is dangerous and can really hurt themselves if they do not take care of their sleep schedule. If you right now have a really messed up sleep schedule, here’s how you can fix it.

- Have an early dinner:
You need to eat early if you want to sleep peacefully. A lot of students eat in their bed minutes before their bedtime and then expect to fall asleep. Firstly it can cause heartburn and indigestion. When you are eating only an hour before bedtime so, your body won't have had a chance to begin its digestion and that undigested food when it foes in our gut will cause heartburn when you lie down or sleep. Secondly. If you eat late, the brain will automatically start working on digesting the food. It will not be done with its chores and hence will not be able to sleep. If you want to sleep peacefully, you need to make sure that your brain is done with its task for the days so it too can relax.
- Remove all sources of blue light:
Another big reason why students do not easily fall asleep is because of their cell phones and computers. They have them in their hand and will continue scrolling mindlessly, not even paying attention to the content. That blue light that comes from these devices makes it difficult for them to seep as blue always alerts the brain. Try to stop using your phone or computer at least an hour before you go to bed.
- Take a brisk walk or jog:
A great way to sleep peacefully is by tiring yourself out. You can go out for a walk after you have had your dinner. This will help you burn off calories, will aid digestion and will tire you enough that you will automatically fall asleep the minute you get on your bed. Exercise always helps with sleep, so if you have trouble sleeping, get up and exercise and you will notice a huge difference.
- Have a proper night sleeping routine:
One great way to trick your mind into sleeping is by having a nighttime routine. A night-time routine can include a shower before going to bed, a face mask or some yoga. You can make a mini routine of washing your face, brushing your teeth, applying your skincare stuff and then stretching before going into bed. This routine will make your mind think that you are now going to bed and it will then begin to relax. To make this routine and do this every day so your mind associates it with sleeping.
- Avoid and stay away from harmful substances before sleeping:
Do not have coffee, tea or any sort of energy drink before going to bed. In fact it is best that you do not have it after 5 in the evening. That way, by the time you are about to go to bed, your body will have flushed out caffeine and all other chemicals and compounds which prevents it from sleeping. Fruits such as dates help in sleeping, so ditch the candies you might eat before bed and switch to a small fruit like date.

If you have stayed awake or slept late for a couple of weeks, you will notice that the next time you sleep, it won't be as peaceful as it used to be before. You might end up waking up at your regular class time, but due to the short sleep that you got, you will feel groggy and tired. So make absolutely sure that you take care of your sleep schedule and always go to bed on time, so you wake up feeling fresh and energised.
